Dr. Chenoa Orme-Stone is a cellist and music educator based in Santa Barbara, California, recognized for her expressive playing and commitment to innovative, inclusive approaches to classical music. For Chenoa, music has always been a means of community and connection.
Her private teaching studio serves students of all ages and levels, many of whom have earned recognition in regional and national competitions and have gone on to study at conservatories and summer programs including The Juilliard School and the National Orchestral Institute Summer Music Academy. She is known for her dynamic teaching style, clear pedagogical strategies, and a genuine connection with her students. She has held leadership roles with organizations such as Junior Chamber Music, and has adjudicated competitions, led masterclasses, coached chamber ensembles, and directed string workshops across the country.
Chenoa grew up in Seattle, Washington, where she fell in love with the cello at age four. She earned her Bachelor of Music from Indiana University and her Master of Music from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, where she performed with the Diamond Ensemble, Copenhagen Philharmonic, and Royal Danish Opera. She completed her Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she served as a Teaching Assistant for cello and orchestra and performed in the graduate fellowship quartet.
Her principal teachers included Emilio Colón, Morten Zeuthen, Marc Coppey, Jennifer Kloetzel, and Rajan Krishnaswami. She has performed in masterclasses for Yo-Yo Ma, David Geber, Eric Kim, and members of the Danish, Juilliard, and Calidore String Quartets, among others.
Beyond music, Chenoa enjoys storytelling in all its forms, volunteering at the local animal shelter, and hunting down the best vegan tacos.
